Alsatians Emma and Thumper help owner Vincent Smith beat the odds at Betfred to win £20,000 for a £2 stake!
Two treasured family pets have proved beyond doubt they are a particularly lucky man’s best friend!
Building site ground worker Vincent, aged 38, from Angus in Scotland, is so devoted to his dogs he picked their ages as numbers for his regular bet on the 49s Lotto.
That was eleven years ago, when he also opted for his own age (then 27) and his mother, who was 45 – numbers he’s stuck with every week since.
And on Saturday Vincent, Emma, Thumper, together with Mum, were all celebrating after the four numbers 1,5,27 and 45 were all drawn.
“It will be treats of an extra big bone each for my dogs, that's for certain,” said a jubilant Vincent, whose favourite pastime is going for long walks with Emma and Thumper in the countryside near his home.
“I couldn’t think of any numbers back in 2008 so went for the dogs’ ages and birthdays – and I’m glad I did!
It might have been four days since the biggest win of my life but I’m still in shock, even now. I had a wee win last year but nothing like this. It is brilliant to win so much from just £2, it really is.
I treated myself to a good takeaway on Saturday of kebab and chips with some vodka … and have been thinking since how I will be spending the rest of the £20,000!
My Mum and Dad will be getting some of it and I will be buying a new car to replace my old Vauxhall Astra. I have always fancied going to New York and I can afford to go there now.”
Betfred boss Fred Done said; “It’s woof justice for me – but I’m delighted Vincent will have this barking mad story to tell our American cousins. Many of our customers opt for lucky numbers based on birthdays or house numbers … but never before the ages of their dogs!”
